"This pedestrian girl you chose is a mistake. She is fire. Fire and water do not mix."
―Eve, to Zuke, referring to him partnering with Mayday

Eve (real name Nadia) is a diva, the top artist in NSR, and the charter of the Dream Fever District who represents psydub. She is also Tatiana's right-hand woman and the most dangerous artist in the lineup. Eve is the 6th boss in No Straight Roads.

Overview[]

Appearance[]

Eve is slim and tall, with green cat-like eyes. Her long, golden-orange hair covers her left eye as the bottom half of it ravels her right leg. The left half of her body is colored white with her left leg wearing a teal platform boot. The other half is hot pink with her right leg wearing a platform sandal. Her fingernails are painted a variety of colors. Eve wears turquoise beaded bracelets, in addition to her left wrist having two bracelets: an earring on her right ear, a head ornament on her forehead, and three thin green chokers on her neck. Eve's costume is a black chest-less leotard with a teal breast cover on the right, and a chartreuse breast cover on the left. Her scruffy cloak is teal, decorated with chartreuse leaves, a yellow cube, thick violet-purple strings, and spheres coated in colors of velvet pink, orange, and white. She also has a tooth gap and dark pink freckles on her face and shoulders.

After phase 1 of her battle, Eve gains two more pairs of arms, the colors of which match their respective sides of her body and adorned in henna patterns.

Her character thematic leans into minimalistic and illusionist art, as Eve's museum consists of her self-portraits (each in different color schemes), and movable sculptures. It also delves into the depth of art itself.

Personality[]

Eve has a stern personality and demands a lot. She is shown to be possessive of those she considers rightfully hers, though this results from a fear of solitude.

She is particularly possessive of Zuke, as he was the only person who understood her and gave her purpose until he left their band.

She's known to be dramatic and emotional. Her expression is ever-present in her actions and designs, with everything she does oozing with her emotion in some way, be it sadness, terror, or anger. She is also scared of the world and how it sees her, blaming that everyone is just jealous and scared of her. She's also terrified of things she cannot understand, like how Mayday and Zuke are compatible but she is not.

When she loses control of a situation, she is quick to lash out at those around her, even the ones she cares about. Her behaviors can be seen almost like gaslighting, but she lashes out due to her intense fear of being abandoned.

Possessions[]

  • Evenfall Gallery - Eve's central location of the concert.

Phase 1[]

Eve dances and teleports around the arena while sending walking hands of white/velvet red color to chase after and attack the player(s), alternating between beats. Periodically, hands will sprout from the floor of the far end of the arena, shooting bullets, the last bullet of which can be parried. The color of these shooting hands is dependent on which side of the arena they're on (if spawned on the left side, it will be white, and on the right, it will be velvet red).

Phase 2[]

Mayday and Zuke are separated, Mayday being put into a velvet red and blue version of the arena, and Zuke being put into a white and red version. Mayday's version of the arena also has hands and feet sprouting from the ceiling, whereas Zuke does not. Mayday's side of the arena also features a more aggressive version of Eve's music. Eve teleports between these two areas, so it is important to switch characters when appropriate. Mayday and Zuke copy each other's position in their respective arena, so paying attention to where they are and what is happening is important before switching characters.

While playing as Mayday or Zuke, large hands and feet will come from the walls and ceiling to damage the player. The hands that sprout from the floor still appear and shoot at the player in addition to a statue hidden in the wall that reveals itself before shooting a laser towards Mayday or Zuke if they're caught moving. Note this laser is only parry-able by Mayday. If Mayday and Zuke don't move while the statue is gazing, it won't fire. In Crazy Mode, this laser attack will also turn your screen upside-down. Attacks on Mayday are slightly more intense as to mirror Eve's negative feelings towards her. The music in Mayday's room is also more distorted and angry as opposed to the calming melody in Zuke's.

Phase 3[]

Mayday and Zuke are once again separated, this time in alternative versions of the arena in phase 2. In this phase, the arena is a shattered version of itself, with hands sprouting from broken pieces of itself. This phase features a lot of the stuff in phase 2, albeit more intense.

Phase 4[]

Bunk Bed Junction is reunited somewhat. Mayday and Zuke are separated so that the screen is split, Mayday on the left, and Zuke on the right. During this phase, their motions are synced, but their actions are not. The arena is set in a corridor that contains a lot of the big hands from earlier phases, which will attack the player(s) as they try to make it through. The attacks of these hands are telegraphed by patterns on the floor which resembles Eve's tattoos, and they will grow larger the sooner the attack is.

Once Mayday and Zuke make it to the end of the corridor, they are reunited, prompting them to use their showstopper to defeat Eve.

Final Phase[]

Despite using their showstopper, the battle does not end at phase 4, as Zuke goes to confront Eve. He is transported to a bleak, white landscape devoid of any features. Periodically, Eve will fire a parry-able bullet which is the only way of attacking her in this phase (although getting hit will increase her HP, not damage it). Parrying the bullet results in Eve moving away from Zuke, while being hit by the bullet pulls Zuke closer to her. After a certain number of parries or if Zuke reaches Eve, the phase will end, finalizing the battle.

Relationships[]

NSR[]

Eve is one of the six NSR artists, with her district being the closest to the NSR tower.

Bunk Bed Junction[]

She has the same biased opinion as the rest of the NSR artists, that EDM is superior than Rock.

Mayday[]

"This pedestrian girl you chose is a mistake. She is fire. Fire and sea do not mix."
―Eve, to Zuke, referring to him partnering with Mayday.

Eve sees Mayday as inferior to her and struggles to understand why Zuke would "abandon" her for Mayday, especially when it comes to understanding art. Her envy is shown in the fight as well, where Mayday's side is visually harsher and more violent than Zuke's side. She refers to Mayday as "fire", the polar opposite to Zuke's "sea", implying that to her logic, they are not compatible.

Zuke[]

Remember when I was the tectonic plates and you were the sea? The heat we channeled when your waves broke upon my earth was euphoric. We were untouchable!
―Eve, to Zuke.

Eve and Zuke met when the two were in college. Zuke, who was a loner just like Eve when she went by Nadia, was handpicked by her after she saw potential in his artistic insights. It is implied that Nadia and Zuke started dating for their college years. The two were in a band together before she lit Zuke's hair on fire in an incident, prompting him to leave and stop talking to her. Eve took it hard and developed an obsession with Zuke, who she thought was the only one who understood her. She refers to Zuke as the "sea" to Eve's "earth", emphasizing how important Zuke is to her. In the fourth phase, she starts growing desperate, mocking Zuke that he wouldn't have been successful if it weren't for meeting her, as if to hurt him just as he hurt her.

DK West[]

Eve and DK West met in college. Contrary to his younger brother, Eve finds DK West repulsive, and goes out of her way to avoid him.

Story[]

Past[]

Her 1st hand mirror collectible reveals that Eve used to hate the pink half of herself, wearing white makeup in an attempt to cover it up. In the video, she creates a bust sculpture of herself and throws paint-filled balloons at the right half, shouting "I hate you! Curse you! Why?!".

In the 2nd hand mirror, it shows Zuke and Eve creating a piece of art together using recycled materials, providing insight on their past relationship. They complete it and they take a selfie together.

In their 3rd hand mirror, Eve talks about Zuke abandoning her during their performance three weeks ago. She describes the event as Zuke running away after she illuminates his hair with bright lights, but in reality, she had set his hair on fire. Eve says that she only creates trouble for someone by befriending them. Then, she makes her decision to expand the people of Vinyl City's minds and imagination, possibly with her music through NSR.

Lights Up Audition[]

Eve is one of the judges for the Lights Up Auditions, being the top NSR artist. She, like the rest of the judges, axed them out of the auditions because of rock music. She is also the last NSR artist (not including Tatiana) to show disapproval for Bunk Bed Junction during the audition.

Vs. Bunk Bed Junction[]

After Mayday and Zuke hijack Sayu's district, Eve and Tatiana are watching the news report about it on Eve's TV only for Tatiana to punch the screen in frustration, breaking it much to Eve's dismay. After telling Tatiana that she owes her a TV, Tatiana tells her to bring her the Horn of Mending to summon DK West. Though Eve is reluctant to summon him, Tatiana tells her that they need all the help they could get in order to stop the duo. More lore is revealed in her boss fight regarding her past relationship with Zuke and her disapproval of Mayday.

Trivia[]

  • Each character has an underlying trope that corresponds with their music genre. Nadia appears to deal with manipulation and gaslighting to a certain extent, and her music seems to change depending on who she is talking to. (Zuke's section in the later phases is more calm and alluring, while Mayday's section is hectic and disorienting.)
  • Nadia's name is mentioned in DK West's Rap Battles 1 and 2 before it is revealed to be Eve's real name after her defeat against Mayday and Zuke.
    • When Nadia is first mentioned in Rap Battle 1, the red bulls spell out "Eve", hinting at this fact.
  • In the Comic Fiesta 2019 convention, Eve's voice actress for the Japanese dub, Mariko Honda, states about her description for the character she plays:
    • “Visually speaking, it was hard for me to figure out what kind of character Eve was. Hence, I initially wanted to give Eve a mature, deep voice, [something] that would usually fit a mature character. But Hazmer told me that Eve is very complex – a more than meets the eye sort. In the end, I decided to go for a sexier voice instead.”[4]
  • Eve's later phases feature a motif of Hindu mythology. Her six arms allude to artistic representations of Hindu deities (Preferably Kali), and the phrase spoken when entering her third phase, "Nobody escapes the diva's realm!", is a double entendre, referring to Devas[1]. What's also unique, is that her skin condition is a reference to Ardhanarishvara.
  • The game wrote Eve's EDM subgenre as psydub in Kliff's briefing presentation, even though her boss theme is actually synthwave/art-pop.
  • The achievement for defeating Eve without being knocked out is called “Poker Face”. This is a reference to Lady Gaga's song of the same name.
  • According the first videotape, Eve's pink side is covered up by white powder, implying that she carries a skin condition oddly similar to chimerism. Also, when she threw the balloons at the clay sculpture, the paint was on the left side.
  • During Eve's second and third phase, Zuke has more hit-points than May.
  • Eve has a different perspective on things, saying she put "bright lights" on Zuke's hair (which was really fire, leading to him leaving her)
  • Eve's real name “Nadia” means “Hope” in Slavic; and "tender"/"delicate" in Arabic.
  • In the first AMA, Wan Hazmer revealed that Eve's original name was going to be Ava, as A-V-A are all triangular and symmetrical; the name was forgone when they found out Ava is the name of a popular singer. [5]
    • On the same Twitch stream, Eve was confirmed to be demisexual by the creators.
  • On her record, her hand-shaped earring has six fingers. However, her actual hand earring has 5 fingers.
  • The color changing paintings present during her boss fight were created on accident.
  • Eve was the boss that took the longest to develop.
    • This is because the "eccentric artist musician" trope was not well known, almost causing her to be scrapped from the game entirely.
  • Eve's genre was originally going to be Lovecore.
  • Eve never uses contractions while speaking.
