Vs. YINU is the main battle theme of the child prodigy Yinu and also Yinu's Mother in the EDM version of it, being the third major battle theme in No Straight Roads. In the first 13 seconds of the song, the most popular part of Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D Major. will play on piano until Yinu transforms it into her own theme, making a fusion of both in the beginning.

The original mix makes use of the piano as the main instrument to represent the Classical Music and weapon of Yinu, although it's composed of a whole orchestra that accompanies it with different other instruments.

The EDM version transforms the piano and other classical elements in an electronic version of them using Dubstep, representing her mother instead.

Like the rest of the Vs. songs, this one also has a Rock variation, where the piano is replaced with Mayday's guitar, using also Zuke's drums for the base.

The Christmas Remix replaces the dubstep variant with a future bass genre during the second half.

Music In Battle[]

In the early phases of the battle, the music will be the normal version, but as the phases progress, the EDM variation will begin to take more and more control, the same as the role of Yinu's Mother in the fight instead of Yinu, overshadowing her and her piano.

Every time Yinu's piano falls in battle and her mother protects her with her arms, the music will completely change to the Rock Remix, representing the great advantage of Bunk Bed Junction when the enemies are down in that part and how Yinu and her mother have stopped playing their music until the piano rises again.

Everything that Mayday builds will follow the beat of the music when shooting bullets too.

First Phase[]

The first part of the music, represented on the soundtrack from minute 00:00 to 00:25, will sound in the first cinematic just after Yinu exclaims "I'll show you why they call me the Golden Maestro of Vinyl City!", shown as if Yinu herself is playing the piano in front of the audience and the protagonists, also present while the title of the battle appears on screen. At the first section of this intro, from minute 00:00 - 00:12, Yinu will start to play a part of the song Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D Major. right before switching to a whole new personal theme by hitting the 13th second, surprising Mayday and some players.

From here on, Yinu will begin to attack the duo from the distance using the piano itself. The music that Yinu will play throughout this phase will be from minute 00:25 to 00:50. Her music will create a physical note at the end of the corridor each time a high note of the piano sounds in the soundtrack, shooting them to the end when a low note is played instead.

When Mayday and Zuke arrive at the door of the golden heart-shaped padlock, already representing the mother trying to block the duo, some beats from the EDM version will be able to be heard in the base of the music, although very slightly. In this same part where the lock has to be broken, several shocking waves will appear that will attack the player. Each time they appear, the sound they make will blend into the music and explode at the lowest notes of the song.

Once the mother's arm appears to raise Yinu's piano, the music will change almost all of its sounds to those that appear in the EDM version. The attack pattern here will be the same as the notes at the beginning, but in greater amounts.

Second Phase[]

When the next cinematic begins and the mother's complete appearance is revealed to the players, the normal version of the music will play again at minute 00:50 - 01:16 before starting the second phase with the minute 01:16 - 02:19 in a loop.

The original song will continue to sound when the fight starts from minute 01:16 - 01:41. The note attacks will be very similar to those in the first phase, but here they will sound a lot more continued, creating a lot of musical notes on stage that will fire in two separate halfs in the last two notes of each verse. The player must notice on which side of the stage they have appeared first to know if they will fire on the penultimate note, the other half that has appeared later will shoot on the last note.

When hitting the minute 01:41 - 02:06, the battlefield will darken and various elements will turn red. Part of the normal music will merge with the other sounds of the EDM Remix, still keeping the piano of the original, where Yinu will attack frantically along with her mother with fast red notes that will come out of her own piano. At the end of each verse, the mother will hit the ground with her other hand, creating a big wave that can damage the player.

After this great attack on part of them both, the original music will already take control again at 02:06 - 02:19, with small shocking waves that will fall at the end of each verse. The music and attack pattern will start over from the minute 01:16 - 02:19 and it will repeat until the player passes to the next phase.

Third Phase[]

Before starting the third phase, a cinematic of the mother is shown breaking the stage and taking almost complete control of the fight. The music used for this cutscene will be the original one from minute 02:19 - 02:31, but the real battle will begin with the EDM variation, using the portion 02:31 - 03:35 in all the combat.

This phase shares several elements of the previous one along with some new ones, but as previously mentioned, the music used will now be EDM. Minute 02:31 - 02:56 will be used the same as minute 01:16 - 01:41, but the last two notes that trigger the attacks are now the only sound on this part that minimally resembles Yinu's piano, now in its EDM alteration.

Yinu's Mother will attack more aggressively in the 02:56 - 03:22 section, hitting the ground at the end of each verse as in the previous phase. Now she will occasionally use a new attack where she snaps her fingers at the end of one verse to summon chunks of earth and to launch them at the battlefield at the end of the next one.

03:22 - 03:35 will be the quietest part, causing an explosive wave to appear that will explode at the end of each verse.

Fourth Phase[]

When the mother is transforming into her most terrifying form, the music will still play in EDM on the minute 03:35 - 03:47, and will continue like this during the fight until the end of 04:38, repeating 03:47 - 04:38 until the enemy is defeated. The less life Yinu's Mother has, the more the EDM music will be replaced with the Rock version.

The most important and complicated parts in this phase will be those that have the minute 04:00 - 04:13 and 04:25 - 04:38 of the song, where the piano is most present, because piano hammers will appear on the battlefield, attacking everyone in the area following the rhythm of the notes. The first verse of each attack will show where the hammers are going to hit, and in the next they will perform the attack.

The mother will hit her face three times to the rhythm of the music in the minute 4:19 - 4:25, the ideal moment for the player to attack directly.

The part of the soundtrack that plays after the minute 04:38 does not appear at any point in the battle, as it will end suddenly when the fourth phase is done, being completely replaced by Yinu's solo in the last phase.

Trivia[]

  • The rap remix created by Karim Mimoun, served as a promotional song for the #StayAtHomeAndRap challenge from May 2020 to June 2020.
    • The vs. YINU rap remix appears neither in game, nor in the original soundtrack.
  • A famous excerpt of Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D plays at the beginning of this song.
  • In the base version of the song, the classical elements become more and more overshadowed by the EDM elements, symbolic of how Yinu's Mother slowly takes over her performance by dealing with NSR instead of being concerned over her wellbeing.
  • The final phase of Yinu's boss theme is not part of this song and is instead its own song which not only does not appear in the original soundtrack. It is also the only section in the entire game to cause the Rock/EDM meter to go haywire due to the fact that said emotional piano solo is so high-speed and frantic that it completely drowns out all aspects of rock and dubstep.
  • Excerpts of vs. YINU are heard in NSR Approach Megamix and The Long Con-Sequence.
  • The Christmas Remix of vs. YINU is the only boss song remix to not contain its respective genre from the EDM genre. In short, future bass takes over the third and fourth phases instead of dubstep.
